Description: Scotch Pine is an evergreen tree that can reach on average 130 ft. The needles, twigs and buds are used for distillation for its essential oil that has a watery viscosity. Scotch Pine contains notes that are crisp, woody, resinous, and balsamic. This essential oil is known for its ability to help with respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and is also ideal to help relieve sinusitis. When used in a steam bowl method, the essential oil of Scotch Pine will help loosen and expel mucus built in the air passages. Complications involving sore muscles and rheumatism (inflammation of joints, muscle fiber tissue) can be treated with scotch pine. A fun note is that Scotch Pine essential oil is used to lubricate small and expensive clockwork.
Contradictions: With age, Scotch Pine can oxidize and become an irritant. It is recommended that you keep this essential oil in a cool, dark place with the lid tightly secured. Young children or the elderly should not be given this essential oil as it can cause hypertension (an elevation of blood pressure) which, in turn, should not be used on people with hypertension.
