This essential oil is also commonly known by many as 'Everlasting' or 'Immortelle'. The reason for this is because when the plant is dried out, not only does it retain its original shape, but the flowers also retain their original yellow colour. The scent of Helichrysum is often described as thick, warm, herbaceous and lightly spiced. Some may even describe it as 'spiritual' or meditative.
The powerful scent of this oil is consistent with its wonderful healing properties. Many qualified aromatherapists will keep this oil in 'natural first aid kits', as it has the ability to treat many ailments and injuries. This includes (but is not limited to) skin trauma, wounds, burns, internal & external bruising, scars & stretch marks, dermatitis, eczema, some allergic reactions, general inflammation, asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, chronic coughs, muscular aches & pains, arthritis, strained muscles, as well as general cold & flu.
Psychologically, Helichrysum has been known to ease depression and many stress related conditions. It can help in some cases of shock, and is thought to help combat phobias.
