Spotlight On: Cardamom Essential Oil

Cardamom

Cardamom is an uplifting and warm spice oil that is said to be an aphrodisiac. As a spice, cardamom has been used medicinally in Asia for over 3,000 years.

It smells wonderful on its own or when blended with other spice oils like ginger, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove or fennel; citrus oils like bergamot, mandarin, lemon or sweet orange; or florals such as ylang ylang, jasmine or geranium.

When we think of the scent of cardamom, it definitely brings to mind chai, spiced yams and pumpkin pie. Though cardamom is lovely year-round, the ties to memories of the holiday season are undeniable.

This made cardamom an obvious choice to include in our Yuletide Room Mist, one of the scents in our Holiday Home line. We’ve used sweet orange, mandarin, lavender, clove and nutmeg as well for a festive, sunny, uplifting scent that smells like orange pomanders (you know… the old Christmas craft where you poke cloves into oranges?).

Some interesting facts about cardamom:

  • the cardamom we use was grown and steam distilled in India
  • cardamom essential oil is helpful with morning sickness and can also be used to alleviate pains and headaches experienced during pregnancy
  • it’s said that cardamom can help to remove creative blockages
  • cardamom is also said to increase courage and confidence

Enjoy cardamom as a spice, as an essential oil on its own, in a sweet and spicy blend or as part of our Yuletide Room Mist!
